The Kerŷgma Movement saw its inception with the Kerŷgma Community, established in 1984 by Fr. Charles Fenech O.P., a Dominican priest; a community of youths brought together with the ideal of: “for a Christian commitment in today’s society”. On the 19th of May of 1987, the Maltese Dominican Province accepted this community as the Kerŷgma Movement. This was a movement built around the Dominican charisma of prayer and formation for a Christian commitment in today’s society. The movement worked towards projects for a christian formation targeting adults, youths, adolescents and children.

The Kerŷgma Movement had a great impact on Maltese society, not only through its meetings for a christian formation and prayer meetings, but also through cultural, educational and sports initiatives. Among others, these initiatives include: the inauguration of the Kerŷgma Cultural Centre in 1996, in the Domican Priory, Rabat; the National Campaign, Solidarity Through Sports that was held yearly between 1986 and 2004; the National Youth of the Year Award; the Kerŷgma Seminar; Peacefest; Adoramus Dominum; international volunteering projects; the “Impenn Kristjan” magazine; the foundation of Radju Marija; Christour Children’s Choir; Kerŷgma Choir and Teens 4 Jesus.

Today, the Kerŷgma Movement continues to work according to the teachings of the Catholic Church, inspired by the Dominican charisma of the new Evangelisation of today’s society.
